Decided that I will be doing a separate Chimera Ant Arc video as well at some point, most likely after the conclusion of the Anime. Wrap up type video with fave episodes ranked, discussion about fave characters of the arc, and just further discussion for the the arc as a whole. Should be a good first run for that type of video.

2025-02-12 16:32:33 +0000 UTCI was really interested in you watching this episode cause of Kite and Ging. But to cap of the CA arc. This is def one of the most beloved arcs of all time and across all anime it is prob in the top 5. Many argue it is even the best, it is def my fav, by a big margin and on multiple occasions the CA arc beat every other arc on popularity polls which is insane when you see the competition of something popular like OP, Naruto or Bleach. To go back to Kite I will let Togashi convince you on that matter but I will write out my first experience watching this episode. When I saw that Kite is alive, I laughed. And I laughed a lot and I was really happy that at some point you also got to a similar answer than me. Gons only reason to go and join the suicide squad was Kite. He wanted to bring him back once he realized that he couldn't save the Kite body, as we know now, he completely lost it and basically commited suicide. Gon gave up his innocence, his friendship with Killua, his nen, his dream to meet Ging and his future for the one only reason of revenge at the end of the day. And realizing that makes the revival or the reappearence of Kite so ironic to me. I'm gonna be honest, when I first watched HxH I hated Gon's personality I only came to him around after watching thousands of reactions and analysis videos and seeing his revenge breaking completely down like this.....was so funny to me. He always gets what he wants, so many people couldn't change his opinions cause of his stubborness and here he went through with his crazy idea all being for naught. He is dying over there in the hospital and here we are finding out that Kite is essentially alive, the reason for his sacrifice. I simply laughed. And one more thing about the zodiacs, I don't know if you remember but Netero said at the very beginning of the ca arc that he didn't bring the strongest people with him and only very few cause if they would lose their lives they would make the ants even stronger and he didn't want to risk that. Can't wait for the next arc and the last 12 episodes. He we go smiling again

2025-02-12 14:25:54 +0000 UTCSomething I always considered when it came to Kite's sequential rebirth, which really tbh has very little basis, was that we don't know what ability Kite's final roll was. One could argue that it resembles a wand of some sort. That idea alone has enough to it where I really had no issues with Kite being brought back like this.

Togashi's choice to have basically every second count and narrated sounds insane in theory but it works and I still can't understand why. Unlike you, i marathoned it in like 2 or 3 days without dissecting each episode and I vividly remember feeling like I experienced some old folktale from a legend.

2025-02-12 08:28:11 +0000 UTCJust a reminder from episode 99. Morel and Knov were complaining because the Hunter they requested named “Riakke” was denied by the review board. It’s also stated that Netero had to argue with the executive committee just to get Morel and Knov to join and that there are rumors that the review board is controlled by the vice chairman’s faction. And that the review board is only giving work to hunters who agree to vote for him in the next election. Netero tells Killua in ep 85, “If we send fighters who aren’t strong enough, they’ll only strengthen the enemy.” Think of why Bisky didn’t join the extermination squad. She probably just didn’t want to even though she would’ve been a major help. As a jewel hunter she has no stake in that game and I imagine the same would be true for many hunters.

2025-02-12 08:00:53 +0000 UTCYeah, it definitely deserves its own video. It was like its own separate anime series inside HxH universe. Lots of arcs in HxH feel like that tbh but Chimera Ants is a special case. I'd be interested to hear what would be your thoughts on Yu Yu Hakusho. For a lot of people it was one of their first anime and they're looking at it through their nostalgia glasses. Lots of people say that they like it more than HxH. I watched it after HxH already in my mid 20's so personally I don't see it but still, you can see Togashi's touch even there. Especially in later arcs. There was some peak greatness in YYH so I hope you'll check it out one day. It's just not that consistent, mixed bag at times and not always sticked the landing. I consider YYH his training ground for HxH but it still turned out pretty great. There were also some interesting visuals at times, lots of interesting dirctors and animators worked on YYH. Like Akiyuki Shinbo who later becomes known as a main creative force behind Shaft studio works like Monogatari and Madoka. Also Wakabayashi, very interesting animator with his distinct fight animation style that many are familiar with through some Naruto fights.
