Regarding the Inheritance Trilogy, if your issue was largely with not connecting to the characters, it should be pointed out that the other books really go off with a new set of people. It honestly kinda reminds me of Mistborn Era 1/2 - not in style, but in that while certain characters are still around and may appear at very important moments, they're much more sidelined. But it focuses on new and and a couple other characters who were more minor suddenly become more important. I could see you connecting more with the characters of book 2, although maybe less again with book 3, and if gods aren't your thing, maybe not. In any case, I also less than loved Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and that was the one I thought had the best plot, or at least plot potential, of the three. I thought Yeine had interesting potential, but I had an issue with at least some of her own background/culture, didn't enjoy her relationship with the gods at all, and wasn't as happy with the climax from her perspective - I enjoyed the climax of the book, but wish she was more involved in it rather than it happening to her.

oh really? It def had intense moments for sure but it felt like it always had humor and and fun at the center. I'm curious if maybe the books get darker as the series goes on?
