I would like to recommend the light novel/anime series Re:Zero it is a mystery, fantasy, psychological thriller about a teen plucked from the normal world inexplicably. Said character Natsuki Subaru is a very flawed person who isn't really knowledgeable about interacting with people. A character who isn't exactly one you root for in the beginning but one you come to respect and love as he and the cast encounter trials and tribulation. I can't go into much detail about the plot without giving spoilers. However, it is one of the best character study series I've ever had the pleasure to read/watch. It is a very dark series however as death plays a central part in how the series works. But if you can endure the despair that Tappei Nagatsuki puts his characters through its all the better when the pieces all come together to tell a brilliant story. (In my opinion)
