My favorite thing about these set up arcs is revisiting them later on a re-read and seeing what he was setting up. It’s really great to look back and see the early pieces of character and plot development. Especially when Oda is putting so SO many early pieces in the board. Things you can’t catch the first time.

2021-09-30 23:55:03 +0000 UTCthis is my opinion on why Law switched the straw hats bodies, he wanted to make sure they didn't ruin his plans and but he wanted to form the alliance with luffy so he was keeping some leverage over them in case things didnt go accordingly and it was a way to ensure they always came back to him so that it could be reversed. which kind of caused the inflation of the arc length as Oda put in some extra scenes to keep them in the wrong bodies longer than they needed to be and have a little fun with the body swapping. if you take all of that out he probably is able to pace the arc a little better. but i appreciate the fun he has with his own series even if it takes us on these weird detours that dont always seem to fit or go the way we want them to.
