This is one of my top favorite animes to watch, I’ve read some of the manga but I ended up watching the whole 2011 series on Crunchyroll and it’s really good. I don’t know if you take request but once you are finished with the whole of the series there’s a guy on YouTube that does a pretty good analysis breakdown on Gon . The title is named the morality of Gon Freecss by Aleczandxr on YouTube. Would love for you to listen and give your reactions as far as if you agree or disagree with what he says.
