I'm so glad that western animators have finally realized that animation can be other things besides a show for kids or a sitcom. The whole reason I fell in love with anime to begin with was because the Japanese always knew you could sell animation to older kids or adults too. But now that Western studios are finally waking up we're just getting more goodies. Just in the past few years we've had Castlevania, Invincible, Arcane, Vox Machina, Harley Quinn (though that last one falls a bit in the sitcom genre) just to name a few. It's a good time to be an animation fan.

2022-09-29 17:04:05 +0000 UTCArcane was the biggest suprise the year it came out . Its a show that fires on all cylinders. Be it solid character work, stellar world building, amazing animation and art and really effective use of music . All those things are tied together in very strong and confident direction , that tells you the show knows what it is and where it goes . I think facial animations needs mentioning separately, the way faces and micro expressions were done , you can immediately tell what there character is feeling and thinking . Its very expressive but not overly , its also nuanced but you can still tell the emotion behind it . There so many great characters , with agendas and hopes and trying to walk the line between different dynamics . And failing sometimes and being selfish ,but its not one note or cartoony. And I have to mention . My fav character in the show and he was my fav character of that year. Its Silco. The nuance and layers with him and how damaged and broken he is because of failed relationships . Yet still drops his guard for specific character and has loyalty no matter what. And how it all unrevals especially at the end ,it was pulling so heartstrings . And honestly i think the ending was perfect . Im glad we are getting s2, but as a self contained 9 episode story it was near perfect
