Doesn't matter how many times I see this it just hits. It almost makes you just want to say, "Why?? Keep going. Keep living, travelling together and being friends."

I love you

If you'd like a definitive look at the timeline of the breaks, you can find a chart here https://hiatus-hiatus.github.io/ As for the information itself, it's mostly going to be scattered throughout different sources so I think the responsible thing is to not comment and let you look into it yourself. If during that journey you end up curious enough to experience his earlier work Yu Yu Hakusho even better! Cheers.

Do y’all know if Im has a P.O. Box?

The manga has a lot of what you want. It has lots of content for you, you'll love it.

I think you’re so incredibly spot on about Togashi deliberately making this farewell feel hollow. I think it’s very much a deliberate move to deny the audience (and characters) catharsis: this is the kind of friendship that is so, so special that its loss is equally inexpressible, that you’ll spend the rest of your life thinking about over and over, with nostalgia and melancholy and grief and love all at once. Every rewatch it hits harder and harder. It truly is the fleeting, ephemeral journey of these two iconic young people meeting each other and transforming each other’s lives that matters the most. But everything must end, whether or not we get a satisfactory goodbye. Speaking of things ending, I loved Togashi’s choice to reintroduce the idea of rebirth and imagery of Buddhist samsara with the reintroduction of Koala. A deeply philosophical and existential meditation on the search for meaning, in a show that has often referenced and borrowed from Buddhist ideas of enlightenment (especially in the CA arc, with Netero and Meruem in particular), presented to you through a talking pink koala assassin in a suit—nothing is more signature HxH than that. It’s such a beautiful contrast, the loss and grief of these two young boys, and then the bitter cynicism of two adults reborn into different bodies (Kite and Koala), each wondering about the meaning of their own journeys. The poetry of Hunter x Hunter at its finest. Lastly, I feel like Koala’s inclusion in the end of the show was almost Togashi’s winking reassurance to the audience that he does. Not. Forget about anything. No loopholes or threads or characters left unresolved are accidental, and he has a plan for every one. Whether or not we get to them is another question, but he remembers it all. We have to trust the GOAT and let him cook, and hope that he will be able to tell the incredible story that he’s spent decades developing in its entirety. It’s been so, so beautiful taking this journey with you, Im. Thank you again, and always. Such a lump in my throat

Just to add to this, besides the very long breaks, the typical pattern I've seen is he'll go silent for most of the year then release a bulk of 10 chapters at the end of the year. So if you average it out it's almost like a monthly manga, excluding that super hiatus we had.

Regarding the hiatuses. Breaks were very short until the Chimera Ant arc which started in 2005, and the long hiatuses which were multiple months long started in 2006. The final chapter the anime adapts was released in 2012. and the final episode of the anime aired in 2014. There was a prequel of 2 chapters released after the final chapter that the anime covered that is often called volume 0, it was never released physically in English although you can find it digitally, and its definitely worth reading at some point as it is canon. After the anime ended, the hiatuses have gotten longer, so far the longest hiatus was almost 4 years long with the next two longest being 2 years long. Most of the other hiatuses were approximately 6-12 months long. Right now its been around 3 months since the last chapter and we're waiting for more news. Definitely in a better spot than we were during the 4 year hiatus where we went 3 and a half years with absolutely zero information or news and many were worried we would never get a new chapter.

i hate togashi for making everything just so tragic im still not over my homegirl pakunoda

Ryuma

oh he definitely meant it literally

Makes sense that the friendship has changed. It's impossible for something like that to stay the same when both have changed so much. Alluka's inclusion also just.. changes the dynamic a little. Killua joked about Gon being #2, but personally i did take it literally.

C&C

"What will you say to [Ging] first?" "I'll introduce him to Killua, of course! And I'll tell him he's my best friend!!" So tragic.

Impudian

i would like to believe that gon and killua were more sad to be separated rather than aching the scars inflicted on their relationship. i think they older they get the more they'll realize that their friendship is profoundly unique and that they did the best they could given what they went through. no couple of 12 year old kids are gonna fight mutants and not have their relationship change in some way shape or form.

Ryuma

Even the discussion lives up to the hype! Was very interesting to hear your thoughts on Gon and Killua. I didn't consider how much Gon's apologies to everyone else made skipping the dialogue between Gon and Killua feel that much more deliberate. It's a take I haven't really heard before. One more to go... Side note: When it comes to Togashi's health, there is a site dedicated to showing the hiatus's/releases of HxH. If you google "Togashi hiatus chart" it should come up if you are curious. You might want to have someone take a screenshot of it for you in case you don't want to know the total chapters so far. On top of that, there are comments at the bottom of the site's page that could contain spoilers.
