Monster - Hauler

Haulers are sprawling aberrations that swim in the darkest of oceans, crawl on the abyssal floors or float amongst the stars. They are a primeval yet powerful organism consisting of merely a digestive system, mouth, basic neuralgic system and many, many tentacles. These appendages are covered in tiny yet sharp stingers, resembling harpoons. In that matter they are not unlike jellyfishes. Do not be deceived though, since they are capable of basic tactics. Haulers are rarely a threat by themselves but can become very dangerous amongst other pelagic aberrations due to their approach of combat.

Aberrant opportunists. Haulers are not social creatures but they may be often seen hunting with other monsters. Despite their primitive brain, they are opportunistic enough to know when they should join forces with other creatures in order to take down a more powerful foe. It’s common near human settlements or dens of dangerous creatures to see Haulers in the middle of a strange and repulsive pack of aberrations and monsters. Beware ! For their lashing appendages may quickly bring you towards an unnamable maw and a toothy end.

Strategies. Haulers control the battlefield. Their harsh environment forced them to develop a crude yet efficient understanding of their enemies’ tactics. They will push back more aggressive and resistant opponents, giving them room to breathe. At the same time, they will drag in more vulnerable preys. If they have the chance to do so, Haulers will use their Tear ability to lower enemies’ resistances. Once a creature appears tired enough, the Hauler will grapple it in its tentacles and start feeding upon it, before moving to its next target.
