Rampants are small creatures of vegetal nature. Hardly distinguishable from other flora when immobile, they can move quickly and stealthily through the undergrowth by mutualizing numerous tendrils resembling long, thorny vines, that protrudes from their body. One of their most distinguishable traits is their head, similar to a large carmine rose. The flower is opened during social interactions and most of the day, in order for them to feed upon small particles and organisms in the air. When their behavior becomes hostile though, the flower will sharply shut, returning to a budding state. Rampants live in colonies across the woods and jungles of the continent.
Floral parasites. Floral rampants need a host to grow from. Their bulbous head has the ability to spit seeds at high speed. These seeds will bury into the target’s flesh and start absorbing nutrients at an alarming speed. In less than a minute, a new individual will sprout from the host, dealing fatal damages in most cases. Nevertheless the seed is frail and easily damaged, be it by a sharpened instrument or restorative magic.
Rampant colonies. These floral monsters share some traits with other social animals, such as the wolves and bees. Not unlike bees, Floral rampants value the survival of their species more than their own life. One will let itself die if it means great chances of parasitizing a host with a budding seed. These creatures are extremely hostile near their nest and will attack any creature in great numbers, be it a deer or a small dragon.
Strategies. Rampants will stalk their preys before attacking, waiting for the perfect ambush opportunity. They need to get the closest possible to their prey in order to parasitize them. Since they are dispatched quickly, Rampants will do the utmost to take their enemy by surprise. When combat ensues, they will start by using their toxic seed ability on the slowest enemy target. Their priority remains reproduction over destruction of their prey. After that, if their prey proves itself dangerous for the colony, they will try to take it down using their Flail of thorns. The seed doesn’t need their host to remain alive for a long period after all in order to bloom. Rampants will rarely flee, fearing to lead foes to their nest, preferring to fight until death instead.
