In the books, delirious with fever, Jaime has a dream about Brienne before saving her. He dreams of himself fighting symbolic monsters / images. He does have both hands but feels weaker than he should be. Brienne then appears, dressed as a Kingsguard with the white cloak. . Brienne fights at his side with a bright sword, and she urges him not to leave her.
Jaime, when a kid, always dreamt of being a knight. Not the heir of the Lannister, nothing but a knight. A tale knight, a picture perfect knight. His childhood hero was the most legendary knight in History. This dream works as a metaphor, he realizes he became a FAKE knight. He do not fight for the innocent, the fair, the just. But Brienne does. She's a mirror of what he wanted to be. She, who is a woman, ugly, succeeded where he failed.
Yes, Jaime DO respect Brienne more than anyone in the Seven Kingdoms. That is one true genuine things about him. And that's why Jaime / Brienne is my favorite duo in the whole saga. She brings the good parts of him. Oh he still is a cocky man, he is still did horrible things... but she do bring the good out of him.

One of my favorite things in GoT is how it brings together the most unexpected characters and turns them into wholesome duos. Like who would’ve ever guessed Jaime and Brienne would end up with that kind of bond? I’ve got two more duos I absolutely love but I won’t spoil 😁
