Progress & State of the Patreon Update - August 12th, 2023

Borne of Desire is coming along. Estimating that one to be ready around the 17th, give or take a day. After Borne of Desire is another Borne of Caution. For the time being, Borne of Caution is always going to be every other update at minimum. If I get into a good rhythm, then BoC might get chain updates until I see burnout on the horizon.
As for what is after the next Born of Caution, I'm not sure. We might use a poll again, or it might be another BoC. We'll see when we get there. The last poll had some surprising data in it, so I might poll you guys on some misc stuff in the future to get a better idea of what everyone is wanting/expecting.
Now, regarding the state of the Patreon, I did hide how much money I'm making from the public at the behest of a financial adviser. He had a ton of reasons for it, and it all boils down to "Number goes down = Looks bad on you." The Patreon has taken a dip in recent months, enough to make me look at a part-time real job, and I'm aware that's my fault. I've been running over due dates, getting called away for IRL things I could have ignored, and trying side projects to the detriment of Borne of Caution, and people have unsubbed over it, as is their right. I'm not going to leap into a job quite yet, but I'm keeping the idea in my back pocket.
As summer starts making its way out, many of my social obligations go with it, since all my friends are the outdoorsy type. I should be able to return to the "10 days or less" update cycle I wanted to keep at the start of the year. I know I haven't been the best at keeping to that, and to everyone who has supported me regardless, I thank you. You are lifesavers, and I'm going to do better for you.
On top of that, I'm trying a few different workflow managing styles and work schedules to see what meshes best with me. So far, a mix of traditional typing and voice-to-text has been enough to wrestle my dyslexia into submission, but you might see a bonus oneshot here or there as I test out different tech. To the person who gave me a legit copy of Dragon v16 voice-to-text, I wish you gave me a real name because you deserve a huge thanks (and a kick in the ass for dropping that much money on me. Seriously.)

I signed up for BoC and I was worried that you going to spread yourself thin doing 3 different stories and also side projects so I'm happy BoC is getting a update every other chapter.

2023-08-15 04:53:31 +0000 UTCBoC is why I joined. BoD is why I stay. Your new projects make me want to leave since my "benefit" gets watered down more and more. It's OK to do new things, absolutely. But when you capture a core audience, you need to focus on those first. Remember that you're turning this into a Job. That means you need to treat it like it. Work your 6 hours a day on the Primary stories, the ones which gave you your audience. If you still feel the itch to write after that, you can do bonus side stories and anything else to satisfy your urge, but in the end... If you want it to be your work, then you need to put the effort in. Your lackadaisical pace works when it's a hobby, but there's a reason the other guys with successful Patreons get a schedule, and makes sure to keep it. It's a... Practical viewpoint that can suck the life out of it if you're not careful. But even Douglas Adams had to be practically ordered to stay in a hotel room and Write to deal with procrastination demons.

Im dreading the “one shot” chapters though since basically every one shot has turned into a side project that has taken your attention away from the projects you are doing now. Can you say for sure they are gonna stay “one shots” cuz if not then please write them if necessary, just don’t publish.
