Unfortunately, rational fiction butts heads with supernatural bullshit. DxD is heavily the latter, even if Steele is quite rational as a person. If anything, he'd rationalise that Supernatural detection is a far more real threat than "what ifs" concerning General AI.

The most dangerous possible foe is one that can gather and control information. Even if it's a remote possibility, (and he doesn't know how the sacred gears have changed things) a hostile AI is the only thing that could take him down without giving him time to prepare and respond.

Not in 2024, ESPECIALLY not in 2008. I'd swap it out with it being a directive related to subtle Supernatural deterence. There's bound to be their influence online, and Steele does not want them to focus their attention on his Factorio speedrun attempt.
