I keep falling into this trap of thinking that the short/closeup ones are going to be easy! So much ends up resting on the characters expressions, that I end up having to rework them over and over until I get them just right. This one was a toughie. The situation in the second panel needed to look uncomfortable, but not TOO menacing.
I started off with the kid playing a Switch because it was closer to a book visually, but because it was handheld, the mom looked like she was angrily looking at HIM rather than the screen. I switched (haha!) it up to a PS4 so they could look less confrontational together.
Similarly, their faces went through a few iterations. She had to look mad, bur not TOO mad and he needed to be concerned, but not terrified!
Right at the end I realized if I flipped the panels, I could have the front of the book showing instead of the back. I originally drew the dog showing off his clogs by holding up a leg, but after sketching it out I realized that the erect leg could be mistaken for something else entirely!! 😆

To tell the truth, I was a bit worried about this one! The mom being so aggressive with the kid made me a bit uneasy! I felt a lot better once I had the bonus panel to balance out the name calling.
