Another one that has been long in the making! I had this idea back when my kids were in daycare. My eldest is a bit of a troublemaker, so there'd often be an "Incident report" for me to sign at pickup. My heart would always sink wondering what he'd gotten himself into now. When it turned out that it was actually HIM that had been hurt, I'd always celebrate a little harder than I probably should have! (I always knew it wasn't serious or they wouldn't have waited till pickup).
I tried to get the incident report version to work, but I didn't like how small the characters had to be to cram in all that text. Roll onto present day and I now had the option of making the strip longer, but now it was calls from school that were the worst. I'd see "SCHOOL" on caller ID and brace myself for what terrible thing he'd done now. My kids are apparently delicious, because they both seem to get bit a fair bit. It's never really phased me, it's just one of those things that's bound to happen from time to time, so I'm always very relieved that it's just that and nothing worse!
Having animal characters meant I could bump the biting joke up to the next level. I started with a baby shark chomped onto his arm, but then I worried people might assume the shark was dead, being out of the water (she would have been fine in my universe) so I decided a crocodile might be better. J had a good idea for a croc character, so he penciled it out for me. He put her in a baby romper, but she was so huge I didn't think that looked right and gave her some cute little girl clothes instead.
