Grampaw Cat Design
Added 2019-12-12 21:27:38 +0000 UTCJ wanted this character to be a cross between his actual dad and "The Most Interesting Man in the World" from the Dos Equis adverts. We both agreed a Maine Coon cat was fitting.
He took first pass on the design (top left) and handed it back to me. I pulled in a bunch of reference pictures I liked and tried to inject them into his design. I loved the triangular eyebrows and colors he'd picked, but I wanted to make more of the "beard" shape.
I managed to get a head shape I liked on the 2nd try (bottom left 2 sketches)
After that all that was left was to do the body. We wanted him with a similar build to Dad Cat, but a bit stockier. He originally had much shorter legs, but he looked ridiculous next to the other characters, so we stretched them out a bit!
I'd been referring to him as Grandpa Cat, but thanks to some reader feedback, his official name is now Grampaw Cat! :)
