Making of "Christmas Magic"
Added 2019-12-24 21:03:20 +0000 UTCWith J and I both being only children (who are still big kids ourselves!) and grandparents overseas, we always end up with an INSANE number of Amazon packages around the holidays. I'd thought by this year, 5yo would start asking "difficult" questions about them, but he still seems completely oblivious to their presence (ha!)
I knew we couldn't be alone, so I thought it would make a good strip, but I had to be reeeeal sneaky about putting it together. 5yo often pokes his head over my shoulder and asks me to read them to him and I think he'd figure out the ruse pretty quick if he saw this!! I had to work on this strip in tandem with the santa photos one and keep switching between them depending on how far away he was.
My initial thought for the bonus panel was to do the parents both wrapping and her asking him for a top up of her "Christmas magic", while waggling her wine glass. Although funny, it was also a bit depressing. I realized that there is a bit of Christmas magic that happens for parents too -once everything is wrapped and the panic is over, so I tried to capture that moment instead.
