Making of "Reaper Cats"

I was chuffed that he asked me and some other artists to do guest comics for him that he could post once the baby arrived. They had to star his grim reaper characters, Hannah and Morty, but be drawn in the guest artists style. No way I could resist making it a crossover!
I knew I wanted them to be animals in the Litterverse, so the obvious joke was to do something about 9 lives. I wracked by brain for several weeks trying to suss it out. I really wanted to match the dark but heartwarming tone of his comics, but it's surprisingly hard to get into a different characters head space. I was really starting to panic that the baby might come early and I wouldn't have anything! Thank goodness for shower brain! The plot suddenly hit me and I had to sketch it out quick before I lost it!
Once I had the initial comic sketch down, I played the character designs.
As you can probably tell, I had a TON of fun with the lighting in this one! :)
