I've been wanting to put more of the dog family in the comics, especially the dad, who I've had planned out for a while.
Here's the dog family lineup so far!

There's a baby as well, as seen in Birth Stories, but I haven't drawn her in here yet. I'm thinking there's also going to be a teenage girl from Pug Mom's previous marriage, which will stop the family being a near carbon copy of the cat family AND give me an excuse to do another cross breed pup.
Dog Dad is based on my best friend's dad growing up. He had tattoos, but had settled down and become a house husband while his wife was the breadwinner. It sounds odd typing that out now, but it was a bit more of an unusual dynamic in the 80's! :)
I thought it would be fun to have a Pitbull who'd been a bit of a "bad boy" growing up; tattoos, cropped ears and docked tail, but is now a domesticated softie, with a big, ugly home knitted sweater.
The text in the first panel was hard to get right. The goal is to tell the story in as few words as possible, but it needed to be clear she was freaking out about her husband and not a kid. The obvious answer was to have her say hes "at work", but that didn't work with my house husband backstory, so I had to change it.
People have asked if the poker cards tattoo is a nod to the famous "Dogs Playing Poker" painting. I wish I could claim that I'd been that clever, but I was just trying to do some generic "biker" type tattoos. Most of the animal ones were out because, animals! and I didn't want to draw a rose, so I did some playing cards instead! :)
