In real life, this one was about a pair of scissors. J had bought these amazing new scissors which I borrowed to wrap 6yo's birthday presents. They were AMAZING! Gliding through the wrapping paper like you see on TV! When I was done, I sneakily put them away in MY office instead of his. Roll on to him needing the scissors and me telling him to look in my office drawer. He was mock outraged and laughed at my cheekiness, to which I replied;
"It was win-win. Either I'd get a nice new pair of scissors, or you'd find it funny!"
With that kernel of an idea, we wanted to think of something funnier than a pair of scissors. As luck would have it, one time we were mulling it over, J was wearing Dad Cat type tshirt (with the Horde symbol on). He looked down, smiled and said "Got it!" :)
The comic went through quite a few changes. I initially drew Fran more cheeky, but J said what of the funniest things was how I was so matter-of-fact about my thievery.
J changed panel 3 to be more in tune with his mock outrage -he's called me a "hermit crab" for years and we even use the verb "hermit-crabbing" for when I'm activity stealing his clothes.
The packet of "Spicy Triangles" is a nod to what my eldest used to call Doritos. To kids, everything is spicy!
