Making of "Evil Genius"

I started out with Dad Cat on the table, but really wanted to get Fran in there and it seemed weird to have her lying down, or looming above him, so I switched to them both standing.
Once I had the pencils down, I did a rough color test. Sometimes a linework composition looks great, but can end up sucking in color because you have too many of the same tones grouped together. If that's the case, you want to know asap so you can fix it easily.
Satisfied, I removed the rough colors and continued onto inking and flat colors.
Here's how the shadows and light FX look with the flat colors removed:
I kept the edges sharp on the shadows and lightening hi-lights and smoothed them on the green, purple and pink glows to make them appear softer. I had to do some studies of lightening too. I found a good photo of a lightening bolt and traced over it. Then I traced over the tracing, simplifying the shapes and then again until I had a more cartoonish lightening strike.
