Making of "What's in a Name?"
Added 2021-02-09 16:00:04 +0000 UTCLast year was the first time we had to sit down and write Valentines to the class. He complained a lot and it was pretty dreadful, but I got a bunch of comic ideas for THIS year! 😅
Sadly there is no Hermione and Kylo in his class, but when I was looking at the names list, I thought how cool it would be if there was!
I tried to pack in another idea into this one, which is kids moaning about Valentines but then LOVING all the crap they get. Squeezing 2 jokes into 1 strip is usually preferable, but it was messing with the flow of this one. I considered moving the "Pink Halloween" line to a bonus panel, because they work well for "later on" gags, but it felt too strong to hide away there, so I made it it's own strip (coming Thurs!)
I had a hard time knowing what to do with the paper in the last panel. It felt like she wouldn't have had time to put it down, plus Vince was lying in the way, but it was messing with the silhouette of the dramatic pose. I played around in front of the mirror seeing how I might hold it and came up with the final result -plus I shrank it a liiittle bit, but lets not look too closely at that!
