Making of "Calico"

I get comments about how their colors are "wrong" all the time. So why are they the way they are?
I usually rock ginger hair (although less so with the pandemic!) so I liked the idea of Fran being ginger. It was also a bit of a nod to Garfield, who was a huge childhood influence.
Next up was Dad Cat. J is more of a dog person, and in particular loves Boston Terriers, so I gave him markings to match.
J then suggested that Vincent should be a cross of their colors, so -calico!
I initially said he couldn't be, because calicos were always girls, but a bit of Googling revealed that male calicos are super rare and special. My eldest is super rare and special, so -PERFECT!
I asked my friends if they thought it would be OK and general feedback was "Nobody else worries about this stuff but you!"

I originally had this comic with a voiceover interrupting the action, but after showing J the neat pencils, he said he had it in his head with them saying it. He was initially in trouble because he hadn't mentioned anything sooner, but then I made the changes and loved it, so he was a good boi again! π
The funny thing is, the joke ended up being on me! I really, REALLY like the look of Calico Fran! Oh well! π€£
