Making of "Familiar"

This one started out quite different.  As kids grow, you find yourself hiding things higher and higher -like there's a rising tide.  First just out of reach, then counters, cupboards, higher cupboards and then....?  Then they figure out climbing and nothing is ever safe again.    This comic was going to be more about that.

I got to neater pencils and wanted to make the 2nd panel more impactful.  I thought a "War Flashback Meme" would be a good fit, but realized that was way funnier than my current ending.  I moved everything about and had a much better comic!

For those that don't know the meme, it's basically a startled "something" with a Vietnam photo over the top.  Here's a couple of famous examples:

I googled "worst toys" to find the most infamous.  Turns out we own quite a few of them!  I threw in a Furby because they are such an iconic annoying toy.

I liked her grinning and baring it face from the early sketches, so I made that the bonus panel.

6yo peeked over my shoulder while I was coloring this.  After giving him a quick briefing on "trauma" and "flashbacks", he found the comic worryingly hilarious.  He then proceeded to dig out the doggie guitar.    Why do I do this to myself?
