The number of times I've sent our eldest to his room and wished it could be me heading up there! The initial script for this one was:
F: Go to your room! NOW!
V: NO! You go to your room!!
F in bedroom, chilling: Why did I not think of this sooner?!
It was OK, but a little obvious. Then I thought she could be in there, texting Joel saying "Maybe he's just the better parent?". But then, wait! How about Joel is up there too?! The idea that they'd BOTH been bested by Vincent's "parenting" was perfect!
The top panel came together surprisingly quickly. Whenever you see me jump past the neat pencils stage, it's because I've pasted together linework from previous comics, which speeds things up immensely! Here the shouting mouths are from No Take Backs. Work smarter not harder, I say! 😁
Drawing them sitting on the bed was tricky and just when I thought I was done I noticed the gap above their heads. I don't like unnecessary gaps and once I'd spotted it, I knew it would bother me forever if I didn't fix it. I shifted the whole drawing up and right to fill it, which meant drawing in a bunch of new stuff at the bottom and left! I'm sure it wouldn't have bothered anyone else, but it looked much better to me. (Work dumber and harder?) 😅
