One bedtime 7yo interrupted me reading with "Did you know that M&Ms are all different species?" It was so random and had absolutely nothing to do with anything -I loved it! 😆
I've wanted to do a "woken up by creepy kid" comic for a while, but honestly 7yo has never done it. His style is more scream until we come to him. 4yo clearly didn't want us missing out on this classic parenting memory and has recently started creeping about during thunderstorms. Just last week, J was working late in his office, when he felt hot air in his ear. He turned to find 4yo RIGHT THERE, breathing on him! Who knows how long he was there!
Anyway, when I saw "Shadow" as the prompt, I knew the time had come to combine these two ideas! The comic came together quite quickly -I love doing dramatic lighting! The only big changes were messing with the shadow (I realized it was more dramatic to have less in the 1st view than the 2nd) and Vincent. Originally I had him wrapped in a blanket to alter his silhouette, but it was a little unclear so I changed it to him just standing here. J said he preferred when he was crawling on her blanket (which he wasn't, the roughs were just unclear) but that idea was actually funnier, because then I could do the shadow reaching up onto the bed in panel 4!
I was a little disappointed to discover on posting that the quote is from a YouTube video that he must have watched: MatPat: Food Theory. I had thought it was another original brain-fart! In a way though, it almost makes it MORE real; getting woken up in the night because your kid NEEDS to tell you a YouTube "fact".
