I brainstormed on the Comictober word "Boogeyman", trying to think of some twist on the classic monster under the bed trope. I kept working through ideas until arrived at this one. I had some fun with the monster! I knew the punchline would land better if he was genuinely horrifying.
I looked at my friend JTA's horror art for inspiration. When you want to draw in a different style to your own, you need to look for rules. For this I picked up: unnatural "broken" joints, flesh ripping mouth, dead eyes and uneven needle teeth. I initially had an eye peering out of the Boogeyman's mouth, but it was a bit unclear once the shadows were on, so I removed it.
I added a couple of easter eggs on his suitcase. People have spotted the Monsters Inc sticker but I may have made the other one too much of a stretch! It's an Antarctica flag, because the monster reminded me of The Thing movie!
Oh and 7yo hasn't asked what a virgin is yet, but apparently I need to figure out an answer soon, because I'd planned on showing them Hocus Pocus this month! 😅
