(Playing catch up in the making of's!)
On Mother's Day, my pal StickerMonster msged me this brilliant observation!

I immediately set to work!
The counter to the non-parents not understanding kid screams is of course being a parent and knowing exactly what all the screams mean. I set up the usual rule of 3's gag -the 1st two scream types were easy, but I wanted the 3rd to be oddly specific.
In my head, the kids were playing outside or in another room, so the screams were all on the same side. This caused an issue because in the last panel I wanted Fran looking off towards the screams, but she looked like she was looking at the fox instead. I tried having her look forward, but that wasn't quite right either. J causally suggested having the screams change sides, which I balked at because it didn't seem "correct" somehow? I begrudgingly tried it out and it solved quite a few problems! I liked the effect of them being surrounded too, like they were being stalked by wild animals, because it does feel like that sometimes! :)
