Jason from My Dad is Dracula reached out to me to see if I'd like to do a guest comic. He's in the final stretch of his plushie campaign and so tantalizingly close! I wanted to help out (not least because I need the campaign funded so I can get MY Drac & Son plush!) and I really enjoy the challenge of mimicking another style so I got to brainstorming.
I knew I wanted it to be Fran & Vincent, so I went through my list of "cat thing" ideas to find something catish -but also momish AND kidish! Cardboard boxes ticked all 3!
I traced over his comics, trying to only change the parts that I absolutely needed to:

Once I had his approval, I inked it, adhering as closely as I could to his line weight and style.
The backgrounds were probably the hardest bit. I'm not really sure how he does them! They look like old computer paint program styles. I managed to find some "gray dot" backgrounds on Google image search which looked close enough. I know I could have just asked him how he did it, but that felt like cheating! :)
I was really pleased with how the whole thing came together. It was satisfying, like solving a puzzle. Jason loved it too! Sort of makes me want to do some more of these crossover ones.
