Making of "Big Feelings"

A fan tagged me in this fantastic tweet last year, saying it sounded like a Litterbox Comic -she wasn't wrong! I put a note of it away in my files, but I think I must have just recreated someone else's tweet and didn't want to do another so soon. Even though I always get permission from the authors to use their tweets, it still feels a little wrong somehow?

I came across the tweet again this year and couldn't help but picture it in my mind. I decided I'd at least see if the author was up for it (I've had some that weren't) and go from there. She wrote back with her approval while I was suffering from a bout of writers block, so I thought, what the heck! Lets do this! :)

I changed the wording ever so slightly; partly to shorten it and partly because I really wanted him to say "Big Feelings". It's such a classic Daniel Tiger phrase!

The rest was pretty straight forward. In the 2nd panel I changed Vincent from apprehensive to smiling, because I felt the former was giving away the gag. I changed Fran's face slightly in the 1st panel -the kitty mouth just wasn't working for me. At the very last moment I changed the background color. I wanted there to be a cloud of "love" around Fran's head which suddenly vanished at the punchline. By making the background teal it became a lot more obvious.
