The mailboxes in our neighborhood are grouped together and there's only room for a couple of cars next to them. You park up, grab mail and go as quickly as possible to make room for someone else. Not everyone got the memo though and one day there was a car stopped right in the middle with a lady standing outside, yakking away to the driver. We sat and waited for a bit before pulling around them to get our mail. As we were driving away, we noticed the lady was still there -completely oblivious to the angry queue forming out into the street. That's when the above conversation happened.
An accurate recounting in comic form was impossible. Mailboxes you drive to would be confusing for a lot of people, not to mention I didn't want to draw that many cars!! :) J saved the day by suggesting setting it in a supermarket instead! Everyone knows the frustration of getting stuck behind someone in line there!
After sketching it out, J suggested I add another person to the queue to emphasize how annoying the lady was being. I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but I managed to find some more room by squeezing down panel 2. When I was rearranging the first panel, I accidentally hid Vincent's pencils layer, which made him look like he was popping out of the trolley in panel 2! I loved the visual of him suddenly appearing to be evil, so I left it in!
A sloth seemed like an obvious choice for the cashier, and J suggested a yak for the yakking old lady! With everyone else a mammal, I wanted something else for the other customer in line. I was going for a duck, but once I started coloring her she was getting lost with all the browns, so I switched her to a goose to stand out better.
This was the original bonus panel:

...but then J said as it's a bonus panel (where the "rules" are often a bit looser) why not lean into it and make them a real angel and devil! SOLD! That's way more fun to draw! :D
