Making of "Caught Speeding"
Added 2023-04-04 17:53:25 +0000 UTCOur new cats are a goldmine of ideas! Having been a dog person all of my adult life, I had forgotten how many weird things cats do! One of the big ones is how nuts they go after using the litter box -commonly referred to as "The Zoomies". Also recently, while putting some new gravel in the backyard, it came up in conversation that cats like to poop in kids sandboxes. The 2 ideas bumped into each other in my head and ended up as this comic!
I was excited to draw Cooper zooming past on the 1st panel, the drag causing Fran's fur and tail to follow him -classic cartoon style! The playground I recycled from an older comic, but I put a couple of random kids in there to make it seem busy. Similarly, I grabbed and modified the linework from this comic for her running away.
After coloring, I decided panel 3 was boring and I could do better, so I drew a new face from scratch.
At the end I realized I'd accidently added an Easter egg! I'd wanted to stress that the off camera kid in the sandbox was from another family so I had them call their dad "Papa". Well, it turns out I'd played this game before and poor old Papa was probably this unfortunate guy! :)
