Making of "Hatchlings (remastered)"
Added 2023-07-05 17:50:27 +0000 UTCThis is a remaster of a comic from 2019. I often worry they're not going to change that much, but then I look at the side by side and can't believe how much difference a bunch of tiny tweaks makes!
As well as redrawing all the linework and adding shadows, I reworked the speech bubbles, moving "It has it's pros!" to the 1st panel to make the punchline punchier. A bit more rearrangement allowed me to make the moms bigger -the croc mom even more so. I changed Fran's expression because her concern was giving away the ending slightly.
I thought a Monster can seemed more "grown up" than a Coke and I took a bite out of the pizza slice (not me personally!) :)
The composition of the bonus panel had always bothered me so it was satisfying to correct. It didn't make sense how Fran was standing that low next to a sofa and the babies were all exactly the same size despite the sofa coming towards the camera.
I made the panel square so I could have Fran standing at the end and made the crocs bigger as they came towards us. I took out the Zzz's because they seemed unnecessarily busy. I changed Fran's expression and had her put one hand on the sofa to make the pose feel more natural.
