Making of "Warpath"
Added 2023-08-16 15:31:13 +0000 UTCI often notice when my hormones are out of whack because my inner monologue gets unnecessarily bitchy, but sometimes J will notice before I do. I'm usually relieved to have it pointed out because it means whatever is troubling me won't seem so bad in a few days. One time recently though I was having a really crappy time of it and I was SURE it wasn't "that time" again yet. He delicately asked, as he always does, but this time I bit his head off! He apologized profusely and I cooled off, only to realize my mistake when I did check my tracking app and... oops! Yeah... there it was!
People seem to get a kick out of my couples comics, so I thought this one would be a good addition to the roster. I started with 2 panels on the first row, but worried it would look too similar to "One of My Days" -which is was already dangerously close to! I realized I didn't actually need to have 2 reactions from Joel and rolled his reply into the 1st panel.
The wave of emotions in the center row was important, so I started with my usual trick of upping the intensity by zooming in on the character. The ultra zoomed in face was restricting the expressions though, so I pulled back and kept pushing them until they were as extreme as I could make them.
For the last panel I got worried people wouldn't understand her checking her app, so I changed it to her catching on from her crazy mood swings. J pointed out that this wasn't as funny and after sleeping on it I realized he was right and changed it back!
I had Joel with a blanket and chocolate bar at first, but thought it looked a tiny bit like he was going to bag her up and chuck for in the river! 🤣 I changed it to a mug instead and thought some sort of warning label on it could be funny. I googled warning signs for reference and found this one:

I laughed so hard at how I'd only need to change it a little bit for it to be 100% accurate!
After finishing the comic and exporting it to my computer to post here, I realized the middle panels were a bit drab, so I went in and messed with the hue and saturation to make them pop more.
Here is one of the few iterations of the bonus panel:

It will only let me have 1 video per post, so I'll post the bonus panel time-lapse separately. Needless to say it was quite a mission!
