Making of "Seasonal Scare"
Added 2023-08-24 14:54:13 +0000 UTCOur youngest (6) and hubby are all about Halloween, (oldest and I like it too, but we're not AS obsessed!) so they both stalk the shops in August waiting for the Halloween merch to land. Target is the avocado of Halloween shopping (it's not there, it's not there, it's THERE! It's all gone!) so they make multiple trips to try to catch it in time. They went the other day and the result was this comic minus Vincent. I loved 6yo's "Howibble" reaction, but wanted a bit more punch, so I came up with something for Vincent to say as well.
Shopping carts are always a pain to draw (I never seem to remember them right!) so I try to recycle what linework I can. I didn't actually intend to rip off the comic "Influencers" so badly in the 1st panel, but once I cheered up everyone's expressions, Joel's pose was too perfect to change!
The 2nd panel was a mixed bag. Silhouettes are always a bit more forgiving, but I also hate drawing the characters in profile -they never quite look right to me!
I recycled Vincent's linework in the last panel from "Golidlocks" -I've always loved that little freak out face! The back to school display was a butt to draw. Initially I went from reference online, but then found myself in Target, so I thought why not go snap some of my own pics?

The kids are back to school here and our Spirit Halloween opened, so we were pretty confident walking into Target that we'd be greeted by some spooky decor, but as we rounded the corner all we saw was the above, bur even MORE picked clean! Groaning, I remarked how it's like my comic, to which 8yo asked "What comic?" I pulled out my phone to show him and he looked up and said "Why ARE they so mean to kids?!" 🤣
