Making of "Bedroom Antics"
Added 2023-09-15 14:22:02 +0000 UTCMy new(ish) cats continue to pay for themselves with comic ideas! Fiasco goes crazy when I try to change the bedsheets and it's a wonder he hasn't been trapped underneath yet! I knew there was a comic there, I just had to think of an angle.
I thought about Fran somehow getting stuck under the sheets while changing them, but it would of course be impossible, so I started thinking about the kids getting under there, maybe her calling Joel in to help by holding them back. I couldn't shake the idea of her somehow doing it to herself though! The less sense it made, the more it made me laugh! I had to give it a go!
I started sketching it out and immediately realized that her calling Joel to the bedroom sounded like she was after something else! I decided to play on that misdirection, carefully phrasing the first 2 panels to work either way. I was particularly pleased with her saying "something primal" -what a double untrunda! :)
I had trouble figuring out something for Joel to be doing in the 1st panel as he needed to clearly be busy in another room. I liked the looking over the shoulder sketch I did initially, but I couldn't figure out what to do with his hands. There's always looking at a phone, but I worry I do that too much! Eventually I struck upon him sitting at the computer, which had the benefit of clearly being a different room from the bedroom.
Everything else went pretty smoothly. I had a change of heart with Joel's arms in the last panel once I started inking, but once I wrestled the fingers into the right positions it was smooth sailing!
