Making of "One More Thing"
Added 2023-09-21 18:35:05 +0000 UTCI had this one in my notes and I couldn't remember if 9yo had said the last line, or if I'd added it. He definitely asked if atoms have colors, because it worked on me just like the comic! If you're wondering, google says they don't, but judging by the arguments raging in my notifications, the science certainly isn't settled! 😆
Some in the commenters since posting have also been upset with Fran calling Vince "a little shit", but I must confess I do in real life too! I made Fran's delivery more serious for comedic effect, but I'll say it in a hair ruffling, "you got me!" kind of way and he gets a cheeky little grin on his face. He loves it because he knows he's won!
The whole script came very naturally because it's just how we talk to each other, but the art proved trickier! I tried to draw a bedside kiss goodnight from memory, but I couldn't work out what the hands should be doing! Unable to take a photo solo, I went on a hunt for reference pictures and found this:
I had to use some artistic license because my characters proportions are weird. It honestly still looks a bit off to me, so don't look at it too hard! 😅
My original plan was to have her black silhouette against the bright doorway in the 3rd panel, but as I played with the shadows I came up with a much better look that I was really pleased with!
After I'd finished the comic I showed 9yo and asked him "Did you say that last line?" His eyes glinted and he smiled -"Yes I did." 😏
The little shit knows me too well!
