Making of "A Woman's Place"

If I'm not stealing food or tripping him over, I'm staring at my phone in front of the exact drawer he needs! J pitched this comic idea to me and said "I may have written it, but you co-wrote it, by being annoying!" 🤣
His idea was to have the first panel a B&W scene of a classic happy 50's family, the mom smiling with the caption "A woman's place is in the kitchen". Then the rest of the comic have Fran getting up to mischief and being chased out of the kitchen like a cat by Joel.
Drawing the 50s scene seemed like a lot of work, so I sat on the idea for a bit. When I circled back around to it, I realized it would be way easier and much funnier to have present day Fran delivering the line! The shock of her declaration sucking people right in, wondering where the heck I was going with this one!
I made the panels wonky to reflect Fran's manic energy. Then I had to think of 3 things I get in trouble for (rule of threes!). Her standing in the way was impossible to show without revealing Joel, so I had to stick to her stealing food. J makes fantastic rice, which I like to dip into before I'm supposed to. I'll also steal slices of cheese as he cuts them and of course I'll have a go at a bowl of cake mix!
I initially had her happy in the final panel, but switched to more feral. It's quite fast in the video but I tried a lot of different faces, not quite sure if she should be hissing or maowing! In the end I went for a maowing face with a hiss noise -doesn't quite make sense, but it made me laugh the most!
