Making of "Hit it Off" (Part 1)
Added 2024-03-02 23:07:27 +0000 UTCI wish I could say this was based on a true story, but J wrote it! Making small talk with other moms on playdates is less of a deal now my kids are older, but oh what I wouldn't have given for a silent scrollin' playdate back in the sleep deprived era!
Having said that, I've actually been pretty lucky with my kids friends parents thus far. I think we're such a weird family that my kids attract weird friends, who in turn have weird parents -so it all works out rather well!
Speeding through the dialogue too fast on this one would have lost the awkwardness, so I made it 2 pages instead of 8. Initially Fran asked the other mom if she was into anime, but I changed it to horror because we're trying to lay the groundwork for her being a sci-fi horror writer.
I thought a sports mascot animal would be good for the other mom and when I googled a lot of big cats came up. This led me to the best "sporty animal" answer -a cheetah! I didn't clock it at the time, but after posting, a couple of people pointed out that cheetahs are very skittish, which perfectly explains her reaction to horror movies! Yay (unintentionally) clever me! :)
At one point you'll see everything was flipped. This was so the speech bubbles would fit better in the second to last panel. I will do anything to avoid tangled up speech bubble tails!
I can't post 2 videos together, so continued in next post...
