Making of "Little Friend"
Added 2024-03-22 15:20:29 +0000 UTCI'm my notes I just had the kids down as "acting crazy", so when it came time to draw it gave me pause. (HA! accidental pun!) After considering some crazy kid things, I hit upon having them scratching up the sofa -I love it when I can get a cat joke in there!
I wanted the kids in full "goblin mode", so I kept pushing baby Vincent's expression until it only barely looked like him. I find removing the eyebrows is a useful trick to make them more feral.
Fran's expression at the end was the hardest to nail. The funniest option would be to have her looking angry, but that's not her character. She'd see the funny side -but straight up laughing about it looked a bit lame too! I asked J to take a crack at it and he drew her looking up at Joel in an amused but knowing way.
I thought about making Fran & Joel more frazzled looking, but worried it would take away from how mad the kids were being, so I kept them with "standard" fur.
Right before posting I decided I still didn't like Fran's expression. She was looking a little too cheeky, like maybe she was thinking of having a 3rd? I kept the mouth the same, but changed the eyes and brows to be a little more resolute. I was much happier with the result!
