Making of "Asking The Big Questions"
Added 2024-04-11 19:50:01 +0000 UTCJ posted this back and forth he had with our 7yo in our group chat. Usually when this happens, I copy and paste the convo into my "roughs" folder and fiddle with it a bit more, but this one did not pass GO and went straight into "ready"!
The only thing I changed was babying up the language a bit, as Cooper is younger than his human counterpart. I knew using pasketti would be a little confusing, but figured as Joel translates it in the second panel I should be OK.
Longer comics with lots of text can be daunting to read, so I try to make them visually interesting by having the characters doing something. I like to channel Aardman Animation's Creature Comforts to think of something cat-like Cooper could be doing. Initially I had him trying to climb onto Joel's lap, but it was looking a bit dodgy, so I needed something else! Then I realized the answer was right in front of me! The keyboard! My cats love sitting on my damn keyboard! :)
The bonus panel was taken straight from the conversation that followed in our group chat. Joel's lines were J, but Fran's was actually Zach from Last Place comics. I asked him if I could steal the line and he laughed and said yes!
