Making of "Brownies"
Added 2024-04-24 15:46:56 +0000 UTCI wanted a comic where they became the plushie versions of themselves and the idea that they all get stoned popped into my head! I knew that wasn't exactly appropriate with little kids, but I couldn't shake the idea -I mean, look at their faces!! With the plush release on 4/23 I figured I had a few more days to figure it out, but then I realized the next day was 4/20 (an unofficial weed holiday) AND a Saturday -affectionately known as Caturday online. Well it was fate then, wasn't it?! I could just say it's catnip? I sprung into action!
It's easier to arrange drawings around a photo than the other way around, so I snapped that first. I made a little baking tray by wrapping an Elisa's Tiny Thing box in tin foil, then I raided the kids FIMO clay for the brownies.

I got lucky and found a scrap piece of wood in the garage that could serve as a table. I thought I might have to use tupperware lids raise it up, but it ended up working great just resting it on the toys legs. (Please excuse how filthy the alcove is!)

Once I had the pic I got to work on the comic! J had come up with the "Cool Tammy or Old Tammy" line, so the only challenge left was figuring out how to squeeze everyone in the 1st panel.
Challenge complete and I was getting ready to post when it dawned on me that the photo could look a bit more trippy. I played around with some blurs in Clip Studio and found the radial motion blur worked well. Only problem was it blurred Cooper and Vincent more than I'd like. I put the blurred photo on top of an unblurred version and then gently used a soft eraser on their faces so the unblurred version below would show through.
I was just about to post again, when I worried the photo was a bit pale, so I upped the saturation a smidge. Maybe it was because of the motion blur, but it had this strange effect of making the background a bit rainbowy! MOAR saturation! Perfect! :)
