Making of "Beautiful Day"

My oldest is so adapt at finding loopholes we've joked about him becoming a lawyer since he was a toddler! Recently I asked him to go hang up his clothes and he came back saying he was done suspiciously quickly. I went to investigate and found his clothes flung on top of the other clothes in his wardrobe -technically hanging, but obviously not what I meant!

I thought about making a comic about that, but figured there might be a better loophole to be had. I started brainstorming ways kids could circumvent the rules and came up with gaming outside!

My 9yo plays a lot of games on PC now, but as Vincent is younger, I usually have him on the Switch or iPad. I could have had him take one of them outside, but that's not nearly as funny, so I guess Vince has leveled up to PC games now! He's probably playing some dumb clicker game like my kids used to when they were little -man I hated those things! 😂

I started drawing Vince at the computer in the 1st panel, but realized it would be smarter to get him correct in the 2nd as that shows more of him -then I could just resize him for the first. I wanted to have him facing right so I could have his hand on the mouse, but the last panel read better seeing him first and then the punchline.

I had fun with the lighting effects on this one! I really wanted to emphasize the dark room and the bright sun outside.

People in the comments pointed out how hypocritical Fran is by demanding Vince goes outside while staying inside herself. This was 100% on purpose because us parents ARE hypocritical like that and that's funny!

I showed this to my 9yo and he thought Vince was a genius! 😂 We laughed about how funny it was that he went to all that effort dragging everything out there and setting the PC up. It was at that moment I realized I'd neglected to give the computer any power! I added a power cable and then realized the monitor wasn't plugged in! I didn't want to spoil the nice arrangement with yet another cable, so I left it off. I knew I'd get some comments about it, but hey, maybe monitors work differently in the Litterverse, or something?! 😜
