Making of "Worlds Collide AGAIN"

I loved how much everyone went crazy for the first Pixie & Brutus crossover comic! It brought so much joy and I couldn't stop smiling at the comments! 🥰 Ben was great to work with and I figured I needed to make a splash with the Kickstarter, so I asked if he was up for another.

I'd always imagined episode 2 would be Brutus babysitting the kids. Pixie is a handful enough. but Coop and Vincent as well would be sure to cause some chaos, plus I wanted to show Brutus' sweeter side after how imposing he seemed in Ep 1. I also wanted to make sure Joel got to be drawn in Ben's style because he got left out last time. We batted about some script ideas about how the babysitting might go for Brutus and met somewhere in the middle.

The next step was to divide the lines up into panels. We got really lucky at this point with Instagram announcing they were upping the number of slides per post from 10 to 20! I have no idea how we would have been able to fit this story into 10!

Divvying up a script into panels is hard enough, but we also wanted to draw certain panels ourselves. Eg Ben wanted the chainsaw panel and I wanted Brutus dreaming about the stick! It was like a puzzle, but I eventually solved it and sent these to Ben:

With Ben taking even and me odd, we went off to draw our panels, checking in occasionally to make sure they were syncing up OK.

The challenge in alternating panels is making sure no continuity errors creep in. Things like the stick, chainsaw and multitool need to be kind of the same. Ben thought Brutus would have a pilers type multitool instead of the Swiss army knife I'd sketched out, so I did a new version and sent him the lines so he could get the same one in his panel.

Ben had the good idea of giving Pixie and backpack so the chainsaw doesn't appear out of nowhere, but then he went on holiday, so I had to work around Pixie until I got the picture of how her backpack would look! It created some funny moments where the whole panel was finished, but Pixie was just a floating head! 😂 Ironically when the backpack drawing did arrive it ended up being spookily close to what I was going to guess!
