The Mombie comic I did in 2020 has always been a favorite of mine. I find zombies that carry on with their regular lives so funny -these gross, brain loving idiots! So when Makeship approached me back in May asking if I wanted to do a plushie for their Halloween campaign I jumped at the chance! I drew over the schematic from the previous plushie and sent them this:

The first prototype was pretty close apart from the brains! Having the brain just printed on a plate looked SO BAD and the brain coming out the back of her head looked like she'd slept on some chewing gum! π€£
It took until the end of Sept going back and forth to sort out the brains and make a bunch of small tweaks! Here's the first and final versions so you can play spot the difference haha!

So roll onto October and I find myself in a less than ideal situation. The Kickstarter has just ended AND Youtooz are running behind and haven't fulfilled their plushies yet. Oof. Not a great look! π
I decide I'm just going to have some fun doing zombie comics. If the plushie funds, then great, if not -well, heck, we've had a fun spooky month anyway!
I get to brainstorming more zombie ideas, which are basically just "what if they were all idiots?" I'd done mealtime already, so bedtime seemed like the natural place to go. I initially tried to make the 2 bedtime ideas work as a single comic, but the flow was odd and I realized it would be better for everyone if they were two.
The pacing and panels of this one went through some evolution as you can see above! I started with the kids sitting with Fran on a nursery chair, because I love that visual, until I remember how much I hate drawing sitting!! I had the bright idea of avoiding it by tucking them all into bed instead -but not until I'd already spent a bunch of time attempting to make the chair work!
