Making of "Should They?"

I can't remember what the original thing the kids were doing to spark this idea, but the general notion was:

kids doing something sort of dangerous
We think Fran is being sensible correcting Joel
Turns out she's as silly as him

The sticking point was coming up with something sort of dangerous, but not TOO dangerous! In the end, it was those funny Redbull flying challenge videos that gave me the idea of the kids with a homemade flying contraption. I considered umbrellas, superhero costumes or a cardboard plane, but bird outfits on cats had a special ridiculous appeal!

Now here's where I think I stumbled on this one! I was having so much fun drawing the whacky perspective that I ended up putting them up higher than I meant to -so now it did indeed look too dangerous! They are cats, so that mitigated the problem somewhat, but it certainly made the comic less appealing now that Fran does look like a bit of a shitty mom, putting her kids safety on the line for a video! Oh well, lesson learned, and I DID have fun drawing it! Would it help to know that no kittens were harmed in the making of this comic? :)
