I was struggling to think up a comic this week. I have a bunch of ideas in my notes, but none of them were clicking with me. Then my cat, Fiasco, started Hurk-hurk-hurking on the carpet near my office. "Always on the carpet!" 🙄 I thought -then *DING!* 💡
I couldn't believe I hadn't made this connection before and excitedly got to work, making this a rare example of a comic completed in a single day! I had a lot of fun with the faces, although I must admit I felt a bit queasy drawing it because I kept inadvertently acting out the hurk-hurk-hurk to get the expressions right!
I had wanted to draw Fran running over with the bucket in panel 3 (as you do with kids!) but whatever I did, her legs looked confusing, so I decided to go with a clearer silhouette of her leaning into the panel instead.
I also initially had Fran answer Vincent, so they said:
V "I need to get to the..."
F "Bucket?"
-but I thankfully realized she was saying everything she needed to just by bringing in the bucket. Having her actually question him was telegraphing the punchline!
