Making of "You Too"

It was pretty straight forward drawing wise (especially as I already had wet Fran from this comic) but there were some twists and turns to get the telling of it just right!
My first iteration had the waiter congratulating Joel at the end. As the comic was J's idea, I ran it by him and he thought the waiter being immediately on board might be going a bit too far and suggested removing the line and changing him to look horrified instead.
Then there was the top 2 panels. As Joel was sitting in the correct position at the table, I briefly started making them a single wide panel, but stopped when I realized the speech bubbles might incorrectly read as "Enjoy your meal" "Sweetie NO!" "You too!" -So I stuck with the 2 panels.
I had Fran shielding her face from the water in the middle panel, but J suggested making her look more like she was instead reacting to the embarrassment of almost saying "you too". Great note! 😂
I don't like wasted space, so I initially had Fran's arms up in the first panel, but I grew concerned people might think the faux pas was her almost doing a flapping gesture at the bird waiter, which could throw people off the joke! I put her hands down by her sides and filled the space with one of those tall booth couch-chairs, which had the benefit of framing the table nicely.
Right at the end, J suggested having the waiter say "Can you imagine?!" which annoyed me a bit because I'd already redrawn him to look horrified as per his request! Turns out though, he was right! Having him horrified but ALSO in on it, was just the right balance of funny!
