Move-A-Bust

Out of all of my own works to date, A Very FULL Cup Bra (just one scene from the 'Credit Crunch or Bust' series) is perhaps one of my favourites of all time. Definitely in my top 5, anyway. There is something about the sheer scale of that bra - those enormous, stuffed cups, or the vast amount of fabric or those super-thick straps, and of course the humble workshop hoist being put into an alternative supporting role! It is a scene that I have intended to come back to and redraw many a time.

I love the idea of repurposing industrial equipment; there is something fascinating about the juxtaposition of such strong, functional machinery being utilised out of necessity in what is traditonally considered to be one of the most delicate and feminine categories of clothing.

Yet, I must add, that it tends to resonate quite naturally with the understanding that larger bras tend to follow the rule of function over form as the support they need to provide becomes more and more essential, and that as we continue to speculate upon and scale-up those designs, repurposing such equipment doesn't seem totally out of sequence. In fact, I would argue that it has a peculiar kind of charm to it.

The original 'Very FULL Cup Bra' is starting to show its age now somewhat. It was hand drawn in pencil, then over-lined in pen, scanned in with very little ability to do any significant editing before colouring and shading. With that said though, that bra really does still 'pop', even if other parts of the illustration are beginning to feel a little, ahem, flat.

Move-a-Bust isn't supposed to be a replacement for A Very FULL Cup Bra, by the way, but rather another rethink or reimagining of that concept. The engine hoist, for example, has already made quite a few appearances over the years (such as Oversize Bra Design 3, Penny and TCSC Part 7, Hooks and Hoists and A Floored Design are a few examples off of the top of my head), and I suppose that's partly because it works well as an easily obtainable piece of machinery. I have seen plenty of designs for futuristic or technologicaly advanced ways to support enormous bosoms, but the workshop hoist just exists as is - and in a push, it would do the job, as well as being comparitively easy to obtain and cheap, too. If breasts could get this big, then completing the picture is only a tiny pinch of reality away!

One could argue that industrial equipment isn't the most elegant or befitting of a pretty, petite girl such as Mandy here, but I'm sure Mandy would counter that anything that retains her ability to be somewhat independant is more than worth that trade off. Besides, it isn't as if Mandy can see that much of the hoist, anyway...
