I wouldn't really risk getting murdered for the first group, and I would no longer be part of the second group, so yeah, if I only knew what the cops know at this point, I'd probably get out.

Plus if i do die i know there is no way he will attack my family because if he did it would make him nothing more than another killer of the innocent, since they wouldn't have had anything to do with the investigation and pose no real threat. that's just me though i respect everyone who runs thats the right option just not what i would do.

Family comes first and it takes true courage to back away from a fight than to go towards it I would stay in the police force but not on the task force.

But thinking it from their perspective and not the audiences, they are working for an anonymous voice to hunt a super-powered killer whose methods are not known. They have only speculations and not the facts that the viewer has - who knows if Kira could kill them at any moment, but just decides not to? Hell, for all they know, L could be Kira himself and only plays a sick game with their lives. And even if you'd know about the rules, does hiding your identity really help, if Kira would suddenly take the shinigami eyes or arms a battalion of suicide bombers?
