However I need to add, it is 100% a thing. it was confirmed by the creators of the show and it was followed up in the comics who are written by the same people. however not having catch on it is not a sin, there is just not enough substance to grab on to it and there is a reason for it, because it isnt there, and it isnt there because it shouldnt or just because wasnt well presented, it more likely has to do with the fact that Nickelodeon probably wouldnt had accepted the season otherwise.

I agree that it could possibly go either way just from that scene at the end alone, It is not like there are many other examples of where this was going to lead from the rest of the season much less the rest of the entire series.

I'm with Enzo. I may be straight but I'm a huge fan of yuri so I think I have a least some interpretation of girlxgirl romances. The Korrasami thing came out of the blue and even upon rewatching years later it was still portrayed as platonic until it wasn't in the last episode. Girls are generally more openly affectionate with each other but Korra and Asami's relationship didn't even mirror that for people to make the argument we confused girl friends with girlfriends because of our heteronormative perspectives. Nobody can make the case that Korra didn't like Mako or Mako didn't like Asami in Book One because it was made extremely obvious. With Korra and Asami they were in a scene together a handful of times and then apparently loved each other. If they were going to be a couple there should have been stronger interactions between them.

Thats bullshit. It just was VERY unclear and can go either way. The relationship wasnt explored properly in the show, and the end was just out of nowhere. So no, it very little to do with heteronormativity.

As you guys were speaking about Unaloq and Kuvira being a Theologist and a Dictator respectively, I came to the realization that every main villain had a different form of rule in mind for their plans. Amon being Socialism, Unaloq being pseudo Theocracy, Zaheer being Anarchy, and Kuvira being Dictatorship. Just something that's kind of interesting.

well it has to be soft with its handling, because Nickolodian..... it was streamed on Nickolodian website they didnt put it on tv but they still owned highest ratings nickolodian's website had btw, korra is a legend she did the most her guide needed to be kyoshi another hot headed, avatar that also created the longest era of peace. for the 200 years that kyoshi was the avatar all up till Roku's passive ass screwed it up.

Bolin's "lava glaive" was epic! I wonder if any other lava benders have done it. The fight between Korra-Kuvira was not as good as the Kuvira-Su fight. But it was a different confrontation so that's OK. So the backstory episode we would have had for Kuvira if the budget hadn't been cut was a "poor orphan story"? Frankly, I'm not sure that would have been worth it. The part where Korra is looking at herself in the spirit world is definitely her realizing that she and Kuvira are similar. I was totally into the Korra-Asami pairing but, upon watching it this time(only my 2nd time) I can see how the other half found it less overt. Anyway, great ending to the series! The animated series, anyway. Stop by your local comic shop and ask for the Turf Wars comic!

Korra’s development in book 4 is one of the main reasons I really liked the book. Like you said I loved how we got see Korra transition from fighting to solve all her problems to learning to balance out Avatar duties (learning when to talk things out and when to fight). Not sure if this unintentional or not, but even though the show wasn’t planned out in advance with all four seasons the creators worked in a theme of if the Avatar was still relevant or needed in the world. Amon, Unalaq, Zaheer, and Kuvira all challenges that notion in one way or form. Each of them saw or felt the Avatar has failed to bring peace in the world and made Korra think about her duties and who she is outside the Avatar identity. I felt that was a great way to go about the story even if I didn’t always agree with the execution. I couldn’t help but smile at how Korra defeated Kuvira and felt Aang would be proud of her.

Well, here we are at the end. What a ride it has been! I can definitely understand some of your problems with Korra, and I share some of them myself. I do think ATLA had a lot to win from having a continuous story-arc planned over three seasons, which is very different from how Korra was treated by Nickelodeon. And then with the budget cuts and weirdness going on... Yeah. Korra had its problems (I'm also not a fan of the giant robot, for example). And yet... I love it to bits. When Avatar was airing, I never really got that into it growing up. It was my little sister's show, and I never watched it regularly. Of course, I rewatched it later, and LOVED IT (and I still do, one of the best shows out there). But when Korra aired, I was so hyped. I don't know what it was that connected with me. The setting, the music, the characters. Probably a mixture of everything. Korra became *my* show in the Avatar universe, even though I love ATLA dearly, and think that it has a lot of aspects that works better. But for my own emotional enjoyment? I didn't mind most of the flaws in Korra. Because it gave me some amazing years with some characters I really connected with. And I've had such a blast watching you go through it as well, the highs and the lows, and I find it interesting to hear what you think, what you like and what you don't like. That's the point of reactions and reviews, isn't it? I also feel like I need to say something about Korrasami (which yes, as everyone else in the comments have already stated, is canon). Personally, I don't think that the ending here is supposed to show them madly in love and already in a deep romantic relationship, which is how a lot of people who criticize it seem to think and therefore they don't think it had enough build-up. I see it as two people who (since it was planned since Book 3) having gone through a lot together realized slowly they might have feelings for each other, and decided to see where that would go. It's the start of a relationship, and relationships grow. And would it have been nice if they could have done more than blushes and conversations and more shared screentime? Of course. But as Eric said, even this much is progressive for a tv network for kids. And they wouldn't have been able to get away with much more. I think what they did works really well, as a start that they can then develop. And I know people have a problem with it, but honestly? I don't care. Because the amount of people I've seen crying with happiness over this (and not just for "omg my ship became canon") more than makes up for the "subtle" build-up. I know people who've come out to their families with the help of this scene. I know people who came to terms with their own identities through Korra. People were so excited to finally have this, even if it might be small, and that's HUGE. (It should probably say something about the lack of representation in general, but you know.) It's all small steps. And Korra might have been, to many, a small step, or to some not seemed like a step at all, but I know so many people who connected so strongly with this, who it meant so much to, that I don't really care if it didn't hit home with everyone, or if others thought it was unnecessary. That's just my two cents (or minor essay) on the subject. Also, as a final thing, I would like to end that while I think the ending is a bit rushed, I do love that Korra was able to talk Kuvira down. It's such a nice reversal of ATLA. We have Aang, the pacifist, who has to fight and overcome that struggle to win. We have Korra, who's always been a hothead and stubborn and not always the most compassionate, learning compassion and being able to offer it to Kuvira. I think that's a lot more awesome than any fight could have been. But yeah, again, following you guys through this journey (both Avatar and Korra) has been an absolute blast, and I'm sad it's over. It's definitely a reaction series I'll come back to and rewatch many times. Still, looking forward to future movie reaction/review. I have a feeling that could be a lot of fun. THE END

Can you really fault him for that interpretation? There's a reason why the creators felt the need to confirm what happened after the episode aired: they were being deliberately vague about the whole situation. You can't reasonably expect viewers who aren't actively looking out for something like this to happen to be able to pick up details so small that even Nickelodeon didn't notice them.

In either case it was a big deal yes it was little and subtle. but it was the first Female lead show that had a lead queer character more or less come out in a beautiful way. And Scraps yeah look at queer cinema history. we have been living on scraps for decades here and there. babysteps all the way. And this one actually opened up a lot of other cartoons having openly queer characters in Kids shows. You gotta understand that one cant just roll in 100% and do it right. this way they used their platform as much as they could and it had a big outreach.

I personally find the entire concept of shipping utterly rediculous and have no idea how people can be so passionate about some brief, vaguely romantic scene. Korra and Asami's implied relationship wasn't developed enough to be bad, wasn't interesting enough to be good, and wasn't important enough to matter. So why do so many people seem to care so much about it to the point where it makes or breaks the show for them?

Here’s difference. They both weren’t sure until that moment. They were basically fighting a war, and just like Katara in ATLA, they didn’t have time for relationships. It wasn’t until they held hands in that moment that they both sorta understood that they had feelings for each other, this wasn’t the suppose to be like ATLA where they built the relationship up and Aang had always wanted to have Katara as his girlfriend. I’m pretty sure that both Korra and Asami didn’t even know how they felt themselves until that moment.

Man, I feel EXACTLY how you do. But I resonated with Korra more in Book 2. It was at the time where I had just come out of high school and really had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I didn't know what my path or anything should be and just - being able to figure it out along with Korra, while she was making mistakes and trying to understand herself, just connected with me so much. Never have I felt so blessed by a cartoon character before It's why I will always personally prefer Korra to Aang. Aang was my childhood but Korra and a lot of what she goes thru represents my young adulthood and everything I go through now!

There are always going to be people that swear up and down that the build up to their relationship was good, but I will stand by that it was the worst on screen "surprise sexuality reveal" next to the police officers in Gravity Falls. If you can't do something the way you want to do it then scrap it, it takes away from the shows already alright finale when you can't even develop it. They didn't plan it from the start and they didn't start anything until the tail end of the series. Even then it was barely anything and could easily be passed as friends being friends especially since they do not share much screen time when their relationship was supposedly developing. It just bothers me that two characters that were presented to us as very straight for several seasons both happen to turn out bisexual and they figure most of this out through being pen pals in between seasons. EDIT: actually lemme scrap that the Gravity Falls police reveal was much better lol.

Okay, so, I’m at work and I may have to edit this a few times as a result, since I’m typing on my phone. There are a lot of reasons I love this show, and the biggest is how much I relate to Korra. Part of that has to do with Korrasami happening, but it’s mostly about her character and growth overall. When the show premiered, we were the same age. Right from the start, our lives seemed to kind of line up. I wasn’t any kind of spiritual person, I was an athlete. Involved in all kinds of sports, that kind of physical activity was a big part of myself. I often came across as confident, but I was insecure in many ways, and while I never meant to be I could also be selfish. But I got friends that helped me grow, and I started to feel like I knew what I was supposed to do in my life. And then I got sick. I won’t go into details, but it was a sickness that often left me bedridden. I couldn’t work. I couldn’t play the sports I loved. I couldn’t support myself and was barely able to make any money. I was constantly tired, constantly frustrated, and felt like I’d lost myself. It’s been a few years, and it’s taken a while to accept I’ll never be how I was. I’ve had to grow beyond that. I’ve gotten better, a lot better, and I’m finally feeling like myself again. In the midst of all of that, I also figured out I was bisexual. I realized that I was attracted to someone who had been my friend a while, someone with whom I’d once had a complicated and resentful relationship. So when Korra ended, now 21 as I was at the time, and she walked forward - able to stand on her own again - and grabbed Asami’s hand....I can’t even begin to describe how it felt. Her journey reminded me of my own life in so many ways, it’s hard to not take it personally when people don’t like her, or call her starting a relationship with Asami to be rushed or unrealistic. This last season in particular makes me cry, makes me feel stronger, and makes me feel like I can continue to grow. And it was exactly what I needed.

"if most of the scenes korra and asami have at the end of book 3 and throughout book 4 had been between mako and korra ppl wouldn't have doubted the romantic intent behind them." wow this perfectly encapsulates something i couldn't articulate. i completely agree with this, people dont have much perspective on same sex relationships and is why its hard for them to recognize it. its like if your listening to Japanese, chinese and korean for the firsts time, you wouldn't be able to differentiate and identify which is which in speech. once you have more exposure to any of them your caricatures and stereotypes of the languages gets expanded and more nuanced which allows you to tell them apart. People don't know what they don't know

As far as I'm concerned, there are two and only two *good* ways to resolve a love triangle: poly triad, or the two "options" hooking up with each other and leaving the indecisive one behind. I call the second the Korrasami. :) And as usual, Eric is the most perceptive and observant. As for the representation thing? Yeah. The Internet EXPLODED over this, it was amazing to watch.

It's been great watching you guys react to AtLA and LoK. Bit sad that it's over now, but the long journey was well worth the bittersweetness :) Also, fun fact: Korra's and Kuvira's builds are exactly the same. Talking character design here, they very deliberately used the same build for both of them in order to emphasize how similar they are ("I see a lot of myself in you", the mirror image, and so on). Pretty neat.

As a lesbian I'd like to throw my 2 cents in here and just day that if most of the scenes korra and asami have at the end of book 3 and throughout book 4 had been between mako and korra ppl wouldn't have doubted the romantic intent behind them. I remember watching this for the first time when it aired and being beyond excited when korra blushes at asami's compliment abt her hair in the book and I never ever though they'd actually be allowed to get them together but I thought maybe that would be enough and of course as it turns out they do get together, every single time I watch this episode I cry like there's no tomorrow it still means so much to me and I still can't believe this nickelodeon show actually gave me the representation I so desperately wanted (I know they're bi but I mean in terms of a female/female couple) so yeah. I understand why it is harder for straight ppl to recognise this build up esp bc media tends to portray female friendships as closer then that of other kinds. Anyway thank u guys for this absolutely amazing reaction series I'm glad it made me aware of your channel and I'm looking forward to more new series as they come!

It was a fun ride. I remember when I saw your first Avatar reaction video. I got really excited that Blindwave was going to react toward it. I was fan of yours already, so seeing you react to one of my favorite shows was great. This reaction was bittersweet to me, since it was the last one for the Avatar saga. Watching your reactions allowed me to relive the first time I experienced ATLA and LoK and I really appreciated that. I didn’t always see eye to eye on all your opinions for both shows it was always great to see your discussions and speculate how things would play out. Avatar is what got me to be a patron in the first place. I stayed for the other shows you had. One weakness I felt that hurt Korra that I haven’t really seen a lot of people discuss and thought you might is that they put the focus on too many characters. Don’t get me wrong there were a lot of characters I liked, but compared to the original we had a small group to focus on with Aang and Zuko’s groups before with a few episodes acting as character of the week stories compared to Korra. We had focus on Korra and her friends, and original Team Avatar’s kids and grandkids, supporting casts like Verrick or Kai etc. I couldn’t help but feel the writers and creators wanted to do too much instead of stream lining it with a core characters. Watching the Normies reactions to book 1 it felt like the focus just enough on new and old generations that I felt like Asami and Mako had more story compared to the later seasons. I still enjoy Korra and like her journey was inverted from Aang’s. I can get why people dislike it, but for me LoK positives outweighed its negatives. I am happy to see the crew enjoyed it for the most part.

There were little hints of Korrasami throughout the last two seasons but what really sold me on it was when Korra and Asami were on Naga running away from Ghazan and Ming-Hua. If you remember back to ATLA, right after Aang was shot by lightning by Azula, Katara saved Aang on Appa. It’s kind of the same thing here in Korra. The increased graphics, on a spirit animal and both love interests being the saving grace for the Avatar is no coincidence. The symbolism that the creators put in Korra is actually very deep and worth a second viewing if you know what you’re looking for. Furthermore the comics prove that Korrasami is cannon 🙃

Damn, it is over. Thank you Blind Wave, it was nice to revisit both shows with you. Korra, in many ways, was definitely a bumpy ride, but i still consider it a pretty amazing show, do not regret watching it, and i am going miss that world. Hopefully there will be a third series in the future, from the same creators and animation studio, but so far it seems unlikely.

Damn now AoT next week, but geezes that dubbed will be intolerable.

The Legend of Korra comic confirms and expands on Korra/Asami being in a romantic relationship. I really enjoyed the development of their bond throughout the show. Also the music in the end was the same as the music that was playing during the Varrick/Zhu Li wedding and their positioning at the end was meant to mirror that.

When people say this show shouldnt be compared to TLA I always get a lil pissed off cuz I wouldn't have even WATCHED this if it weren't for TLA. Yes this series is better if you ignore where it comes from, but thats dishonest. Korra had good elements. I don't think they outweighed the bad. Now that I've rewatched it all with the guys, I feel secure in that opinion. Not to say others aren't allowed to like it, but yeah this show was a letdown for me.

And I'll just say as a bisexual person myself I mean... I don't really know how to explain how I perceive my attraction to people. I don't really think it's any different than how you guys are attracted to someone. I meet someone and if I'm attracted to someone, be it a guy or a girl, I act largely the same way. I think the logical hurdle a lot of people stumble on when it comes to bi or gay characters in a story like this is that "I don't really see any signs of her being bi." When really there aren't really signs to begin with. Not everyone who discovers their sexuality does so late in life. I had very easy going parents and always knew and never had a problem with my sexuality. I think in the context of this story the world they want to create being bisexual or whatever isn't supposed to be treated as this big decision. It's just what someone may or may not be. My two cents anyways.

Word of god said that the ending of the series here was meant to imply a new romantic beginning for Korra and Asami. If I remember right they said that for a same sex relationship this is all they could really get away with but they wanted to make it clear what their intentions were. One big hint is the song that's playing at the end of the show and how it echoes the end of Avatar when Aang and Katara kissed. God I miss these shows I wish they would have been able to continue fleshing out this series! What a sad ending to the series :( But what an amazing ride it was!
